The flat or horizontal work surface in a kitchen, typically the top of a base cabinet. The countertop is created by applying an acidic chemical to bare concrete and then adding colored metallic salts that penetrate and stain the concrete. After acid etching, the countertop may be scored or cut with saws to create the appearance of tiles or patterns in the concrete.
