Ceiling consisting of lath and plaster applied over ceiling joists. Through the 1930s, wood lath was common. From 1940 to 1960 the typical lath was button board, a gypsum board with thin paper and holes. After 1960, a thin gypsum board with thin wall plaster was common. Plaster is typically found in older and high value residences. Assumes intricate ceiling configurations typical of high value homes such as skylights, cathedral, coffered, and domed ceilings.
